Digital stamp card

Definition

A digital stamp card is a loyalty card held on a customer's phone instead of on paper, where each qualifying visit or purchase adds one stamp and reaching a set number of stamps unlocks a reward. It replicates the classic buy-nine-get-one-free punch card without the card to lose.

How it replaces the paper card

The mechanic is identical — a goal, a stamp per visit, a reward at the end. What changes is where the record lives. On paper, the customer holds the only copy; lose the card and the history is gone, and the business has no idea who its repeat customers are.

Digitally, the business holds the record. That means the count survives a lost phone, it cannot be forged with a borrowed rubber stamp, and for the first time the business can see how many customers are two stamps from a reward.

How a stamp gets awarded

The common pattern is a QR scan at the counter. The customer shows their member QR, staff scans it, one stamp is recorded. Bioflow works this way: the business scans from its own phone, so there is no terminal, dongle, or POS integration to buy.

The other pattern is customer-scans-business, where a code is displayed at the register. It is faster but easier to abuse, since anyone who photographs the code can claim stamps without buying anything.

What actually makes one work

A reachable goal. Ten stamps at a coffee shop someone visits twice a week is roughly a month — fine. Ten stamps at a tattoo studio is several years, and nobody finishes it.

A reward worth the trips. The reward has to cost the business less than the incremental visits are worth, and still feel like a real prize to the customer. A free drink after ten works; ten percent off after ten does not.

Enrollment that takes seconds. Every extra step at the counter loses people. If joining requires downloading an app, most customers will simply decline while there is a queue behind them.

Frequently asked questions

Do my customers need to download an app?

Not with Bioflow. Customers join from your public profile page and their card opens in the browser, so there is nothing to install. Some competing platforms do require a customer app, which is the single biggest cause of drop-off at the counter — check this before you choose one.

How many stamps should the goal be?

Match it to visit frequency, not to a round number. Aim for a reward the customer can reach in about a month of normal behaviour: roughly 8 to 10 for a coffee shop, 5 to 6 for a barbershop, 4 to 5 for a salon.

Can customers cheat a digital stamp card?

Much less easily than a paper one. Because the business scans the customer's code at the counter, stamps cannot be self-issued. The weak point in any system is staff awarding stamps without a purchase, which is a policy problem rather than a technical one.

What does a digital stamp card cost?

Dedicated loyalty platforms in Latin America commonly start around $299 MXN per month, and international ones run higher. Bioflow includes loyalty programs in Pro at $10/month, which also covers the link-in-bio side.
